About T.W. Hollister & Co.

T.W. Hollister & Co. was created for the adventurer within us, to celebrate the untamed spirit of the West while honoring the legacy of our family’s lineage.

T.W. Hollister is a family-owned company dedicated to producing sustainably-sourced and locally-fortified vermouth, handcrafted in California. Drawing inspiration from our roots and honoring the enduring spirit of the west, T.W. Hollister & Co. is a brand built upon family, integrity, conservation and discovery.

We craft every bottle of Oso de Oro vermouth to celebrate the unique characters of the region our family has called home for generations, using sustainable practices and locally-sourced botanicals whenever possible — some of which are grown on our family homestead in Santa Barbara County, founded in 1866.

T.W. Hollister & Co. Heritage and History

It was in 1855 when our family’s Patriarch, Colonel William Welles Hollister, sold his homestead in Ohio and embarked on an epic journey to California. His story is one of fearlessness, resiliency and innovation, which led him to become a leading statesman, entrepreneur, renowned horticulturist and patron of the arts at a time when California was creating its cultural identity.

Drawing inspiration from our roots, we are passionate about conserving the land around us and driven to take an honest and conscientious approach to everything we do.

Our vermouth is infused with local botanicals,  further paying tribute to our storied past while reinforcing our locally-minded ethics. The adventurous spirit of our early immigrant ancestors and the innovation for viticulture they brought with them to California have helped define T.W. Hollister & Co., serving as a reminder to be inspired by tradition and wild at heart.

“If things grow like this, then California is a great country for agriculture, but farms will not come for many years.”
- W.W. Hollister

“It is very hard to corner a good man on the plains, if he keeps command of his wits.”
- W.W. Hollister

What Makes Our Vermouth Different

We are the first great producer of American vermouth, right on the central coast of California where our family has lived for generations. We fortify our wines with sustainable Californian ingredients, including those grown on our property at Hollister Ranch. On the ranch, you'll find an array of plants that contribute to the unique earthy flavors in each bottle, from white sage, berries, olive, eucalyptus, almonds and walnuts.

We produce two types of vermouth, dry vermouth and sweet red vermouth. We start with white wine, then infuse it with a blend of local botanicals, blood orange, chamomile and Hummingbird Sage. Then finish it off with European caramel for that wonderful texture and color.

Oso de Oro Red Vermouth

19 botanicals, including Hummingbird sage, blood orange, grapefruit peel, ginger root and wormwood.

Infused with a unique blend of 19 botanicals, our red vermouth is finished with organic caramel sourced from a fifth-generation European caramel company, enhancing the overall texture and imparting a mild, pleasing sweetness to balance the wine's natural acidity. Fruit-forward and herbal, its complex layers and sweet floral nuances round out the long finish. Try it on its own, or enjoy in your favorite cocktail.

Oso de Oro Dry Vermouth

12 botanicals, including orange peel, chamomile, rose hips and wormwood.

Infused with a unique blend of 12 botanical ingredients, this dry style of vermouth is fruit-forward and floral, enhanced by subtle herbal notes with a lengthy, pleasant finish. Light on the palate, its complex flavors and balanced acidity make it easy to enjoy on its own or in your favorite cocktail. We love it in a Spritz with a twist of orange peel.
